Course Description
The purpose of this course is to develop an in-depth understanding of the unique health care needs of women throughout their life span. A wide variety of physiological and psychosocial issues that affect women will be explored in relationship to particular age groups. Students will also be encouraged to share their own experiences caring for women in their nursing clinical practice settings and identify strategies to help provide optimal health care for that group. The unique needs that women of various cultures may have when entering the American health care delivery system will also be examined.
Course Objectives
- Examine the historical development of specialized health care for women across their life span.
- Differentiate age-specific recommendations for health promotion and disease prevention of women across the life span.
- Design a plan of care for women entering the health care system based on their identified physiological, psychosocial, and economic needs.
- Assess the nurse's role in relationship to health promotion, disease prevention, and illness management for women of various cultures and minorities.
